Thermal Characteristic Simulation Study of Multicolumn Parallel Zinc Oxide Arresters under Extreme Operating Conditions

The arrester plays an important role in the protection of DC transmission system, and its thermal characteristics under different operating conditions greatly affect performance. To study multicolumn parallel arresters extreme a considering influence SF6 fluid, structural parameters ±500 kV Niu Cong project were applied for this research. Firstly, 3D model four-column zinc oxide installed on neutral bus was built ANSYS to analyze conduction. Then, electromagnetic transient system established PSCAD withstood energy 22 typical fault three operation modes. Based obtained, simulations steady-state performed fluid flow heat dissipation arrester. Finally, field-test temperature test carried out validate effectiveness proposed simulation calculation method, with data matching well data. results also conclude findings reveal conduction conditions.
